Fully Qualified

After 8 years of running Abacus, an outreach support service for schools, I established Derbyshire Learning Solutions to respond to the increasing requests from parents seeking support for their children with learning.

I am a fully qualified specialist teacher and assessor of specific learning difficulties benefiting from 19 years’ experience in education. After qualifying as a mainstream classroom teacher in 2001, I transferred to work as a specialist teacher alongside my role as assistant educational psychologist in 2005.

I am passionate about motivating children to learn and sometimes, when things have not gone so well in the past, they can become disinterested or disheartened with their learning. I feel everyone has the right to learn, the right to achieve, and the right to succeed and it is my goal to make this happen for every child, starting with understanding their learning needs. I believe that a clear understanding of people’s cognitive strengths and difficulties helps them to achieve their full potential – a real motivator for me!
