Welcome to The New Ways Learning Centre Neurodiverse learners have such a varied level and dimension of need and we specialise in supporting those with specific learning difficulties. This may be dyslexia, dyscalculia, attention and concentration difficulties (often associated to attention deficit hyperactivity disorder), social and communication difficulties such as an autistic spectrum disorder or social and emotional well-being and mental health difficulties.

We currently support schools across Derbyshire, Staffordshire and Leicestershire providing consultation and assessment that may include cognitive profiling, identification of needs through functional assessment, diagnostic SpLD assessments, training and one to one and small group specialist teaching. However, at Abacus, there was only one of me and the workload was increasing so The New Ways Learning Centre was created.

The centre aims to provide a safe space for children to learn and develop new skills; new ways to learn, new ways to achieve and new ways to succeed. Specialist group teaching is due to start from September and will be planned as full morning, afternoon or 60-90 minutes sessions during the school day (depending on the focus). Our extensive experience tells that, due to the nature of these learners’ needs, additional time at the end of the school day can be too taxing and therefore less effective than sessions during the school day. There are some after school sessions available for learners that can manage additional learning after school.
