We had the lovely chance to work with one of our KS1 learners this week - working on fine motor skills, number recognition and matching value to number!

Below is what a typical specialist session could look like - although ‘typical’ doesn’t work for us… it’s all bespoke to strengths, needs and interest of our learners.

First we enjoyed a number song story, then we hunted for numbers hidden in the ball pit, thinking about correct shape and orientation and matching numbers to pictures - taking care on those pesky 6s and 9s. Then, after some number/value pompom moving with tongs (to help warm up and work the muscles needed for precise cutting), we moved on to cutting curved lines (much harder than straight lines which have now been truly mastered!).

All with sensory brain breaks in between, a bit of chat, attention and concentration strategy application and just general fun and smiles!
