Brain Breaks

To our learners, we explain ‘processing difficulties’ as when their brains have to work much harder than others to get to the same answer - their brains work things out as well as the next person’s but it may take a little while longer for the brain to work through the information. This can become tiring, particularly if working on the same thing for a length of time as in the mainstream classroom. We use ‘Brain Breaks’ to help learners reset and revitalise to keep learning optimal. Here are some of our older learners’ favourite Brain Breaks- Genius Square, Hangman and Genius Star. But you know it’s not like us to waste any time in our sessions so even our breaks are packed full of learning opportunities - coordinates, shape and space, spatial reasoning and awareness, spelling, phonological awareness, grapheme phoneme correspondence and dictionary work are all skills being further developed through playing these games. A Brain Break is as good as a Brain Rest!
